IS SONAR 8.5 32 OR 64 BIT UPGRADE
I just installed the upgrade (2GB download!) and loaded up a reference project that Sonar 8 has choked on before. Only you can answer whether the upgrade is "worth it" to you and your scenario. rather this is one area where Sonar 8.5 really shines. This is not to slam the other DAW applications. None of the other applications can currently sustain this type of load. and pile on the disk streaming polyphony. Ie: I can load up Kontakt 4 with Jet-City (multi-channel 24Bit/96k) sample library. that just isn't possible (at least currently) in ProTools 8 LE/MP, Cubase 5, Reaper 3, Live 8, etc. The audio engine in Sonar 8.5 can sustain loads at ultra low latency settings. I far prefer to use Sonar 8.5 than Sonar 8. but there's plenty of "evolutionary" enhancements that make for a much nicer end-user experience. In whole, Sonar 8.5 isn't a "revolutionary" upgrade.

I believe you can also change ASIO (audio interface) settings without having to close/open Sonar for the changes to be saved and take effect. IOW, It works better when bridging 32Bit plugins (many that were problematic with v8). which resolves most 'bridging' related problems with 32Bit plugins. Sonar 8.5 also has BitBridge2 (Sonar 8 has BitBridge1). Less prone to dropouts/glitches when running heavy loads at ultra low latency. Therefore, proceed at your own risk.Ĭlick to expand. If you work at ultra low latency settings (ASIO buffer size of 64-samples or smaller), Sonar v8.5 is much better optimized for that purpose.
